A system is not functional without these libraries. I'm no SLES expert so I can't help with that part but it should get you started.
Distribution: SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SERVER:~ # Update on uname/zypper results: Here is a list of SLES-kernels and their release dates. I can not see how your system got to SLES10 SP4 - there are only SLES10 SP2 repositories shown. Here is page showing how to update a SLES system between various SP's.
This means pip works on the latest patch version of each of these minor versions (i.e. Previous patch versions are supported on a best effort approach.
You likely need to backup all your 'data' and all of your 'configuration files' [typically inside /etc] and your /home and then do a fresh install and re-install EVERY THING.
There may also be 'configuration' information in /home/yourusername/. If it were me, I would create a separate partition for open SUSE-11.4 (including separate / and /home partitions) and dual boot between Su SE-9.2 Pro and open SUSE-11.4 and gradually migrate over from 9.2 to 11.4.
come to think of it, there _may_ be a smooth easy upgrade path from SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server version 11, check it out at novell.com/linux and in their fora at forums.let us know what your needs are if you intend to use open SUSE.. If I remember correctly, the term "professional" meant the paid DVD vs the downloaded install. - It can not be done "live": that is certainly not supported. - The support is "past tense" for some of the steps.

Su SE Linux Professional is what later became open SUSE. - It is a lot of work: you have to do now what you did not do in years. You can upgrade to a version 10.x something, by first grabbing the DVD from somewhere.
(Example: SLES 11 (initial release) implies support for SLES 11 SP1, unless it's specifically called out in the notes as "not supported with SP1") If you prefer using distribution-provided drivers, you need not wait for the release of an SPP supporting the latest update/Service Pack of the distribution, provided there is no new hardware being deployed.
You may safely apply the latest SPP(non-driver components) and be assured of support from HPE.
The igb driver included in the SLES11 SP3 base media does not recognize the NIC controller on this cartridge and requires the use of a k ISO with an updated igb driver.
