This affair in turn triggered the end of Barrie’s marriage.
At the same time as the divorce was announced, in autumn 1909, Barrie also became godfather to Scott’s son Peter, most probably named after “the boy who wouldn’t grow up”.
Just three months later, on December 27, the first performance of Peter Pan was given at the Duke of York’s Theatre and Barrie’s already considerable fame grew still greater.
However, it wasn’t until 1906 that Mason introduced the two men. Scott gave Barrie the book he had written about his expedition and Barrie, in turn, took him to a rehearsal of Peter Pan, and invited him to his country house in Surrey, where he regularly hosted parties.
Also in the team was the novelist A E W Mason and it was he who introduced Barrie to Scott.
